The route I take to work is less than 25 miles long but thanks to the wonders of traffic in Northern Virginia, I leave for work by 6:30AM at the absolute latest even though I don’t start until 9:00AM. Talk about depressing. When I get into Tyson’s Corner there is usually a bit of time before work starts which is occasionally spent catching some more z’s in my car or more often it is spent hanging out with Page and Winnie, watching the Today Show.
This morning, getting into town an hour before work started, I thought “Hey, it’s payday – go reward yourself with something faboosh” and so I did.
I grabbed a grande soy vanilla latte and a marble pound cake and I took a seat in a leather chair at the oh-so hip Starbucks. I brought my new favorite toy, my Nook, so I had it on hand for an hour of relaxing, reading, and a good unhealthy breakfast.
There I was, looking Hipster as ish, enjoying my morning and I couldn’t have been happier. My mother and David will fight for first place to exclaim how not a morning person I am. I grunt instead of use words. I use multiple grunts instead of sentences. I scowl for at least the first hour. You can give me a shower, a run, a cup of coffee – nothing makes me un-morning grumpy except time to wake up. Times like this though, they make me feel a little better about waking up early. I’m not cool enough and I don’t have enough money to be a Starbucks everyday person and even if I was that cool and did have that much money Starbucks would be the last thing on my mind.
But every now and then, on a quiet Friday paycheck morning, it’s nice to chill out with a treat and fall into a good book. The only thing that could have made it better was not having to work afterwards and getting to go back to sleep.
On that note, I really have to work on that getting rich without trying thing…
