#50, or Church Inspiration, or Reverend Nancy Rocks my Socks

There isn’t enough love or compassion in this world. There isn’t enough joy or happiness or acceptance. There isn’t enough. That is why I am grateful whenever I can feel, if even for just one moment, that there could be enough.

This morning’s service at church was uplifting to say the least. I am a big fan of the church we go to and I am consistently touched and entertained by our reverend’s sermons. We go to a Unitarian Universalist church. Straight from their website, they operate on 7 principles:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

How great is all of that? There is no specific doctrine of belief system except that everyone deserves the right to their own belief system and that everyone is worthy of love and equality. Amen. Today’s sermon was on the importance of being good people who do good things. It doesn’t matter what we believe or that everyone in the room agree on a specific theology ; what matters is action. What we do with our lives. How our beliefs – no matter what they are – affect us as people. Do your beliefs inspire you to change the world for the better? If so, they are worth following. Or do your beliefs encourage you to be angry, violent, and unforgiving? These beliefs could afford to be traded in.

How do your beliefs shape your life?

Oh, and on our way out of the sanctuary and downstairs for fellowship hall, the reverend commented on the size of David’s removed tumor and mentioned it was the size of 1 good D cup. A church leader with a sense of humor? Count me in.

Well then it has been a courageous 50 days for me!
